GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Division of Global Health Equity (DGHE) at Brigham & Women¿s Hospital fosters the support and coordination of training, research, and service to reduce disparities in disease burden and to improve treatment outcomes both at home and abroad. The Division focuses on infectious diseases (e.g., HIV and tuberculosis) as well as non-infectious diseases (e.g., coronary artery disease, diabetes, addiction) and other health problems (that disproportionately affect populations in the developing world) of major importance to society.
The DGHE is a founding partner of the Global Health Delivery Project (GHD). GHDonline, the ¿communities of practice¿ website of GHD, is where health care implementers share proven practices, connect with colleagues, and find resources they need to improve health outcomes in resource-limited settings. Launched in July 2008, GHDonline consists of five public communities (Adherence & Retention, TB Infection Control, Drug Resistant TB, Health IT, Nursing & Midwifery) that global health professionals can join to participate in discussions, post resources, and search for practical information to help them design, implement and improve health care programs and services. GHDonline also hosts several private communities designed and maintained for specific organizations and collaborative initiatives.
The Junior Software Engineer develops the code for the GHDonline platform, supports and maintains the GHDonline website, and works with the GHDonline team to develop new features and enhancements for the website.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
¿ Development (gathering requirements, proposing designs, writing code, writing test cases) of new features for GHDonline and other GHD collaboration platform technologies
¿ Enhancement of existing features for GHDonline and other GHD collaboration platform technologies
¿ Repair of bugs and defects in existing features of GHDonline and other GHD collaboration platform technologies
¿ Optimization of existing code paths in order to facilitate the ideal user experience for members of the GHDonline website
¿ Support and maintenance of the IT infrastructure supporting the GHDonline website
¿ Scaling up and re-architecting, where needed, the IT infrastructure supporting the GHDonline website in order to allow for growth in site membership
¿ Work within an Agile/SCRUM development environment
¿ Regular meetings and discussions with the greater GHDonline team |
