Sasha Dubois, Registered Nurse
“Everyone wants to work in a huge hospital. Everyone wants to work in an acute facility, but I think the difference is when you have the support system like here. If you don’t have the support, you’ll just go right through the cracks just like other people do in other major facilities. I think that Brigham is really good at making sure that their Nurses are supported.”

Keith Anderson, Department of Pathology, Administrator Director research operations and planning.
“We are the research side of pathology. We investigate disease, and because we’re so well-funded by the NIH, we make major contributions toward cures and management of those diseases. What makes Brigham unique is the personal connection. Human compassion translates from the top down – there is a real caring about how our employees develop. We make sure they have all the resources they need to learn, grow and succeed.”

Daphne Kekis, Vascular Sonographer
“The culture here is very professional and educational. My boss isn’t just a great boss, she’s a great teacher. So are all the doctors and they have great bedside manners. Because the staff is so fulfilled, patients get the best care. I feel this is my home and these people are like family. They all do their jobs with great enthusiasm, it’s a really positive environment. Oh and one more thing: the pay is a huge motivator and so are the benefits.”

Ran Tianna Alix-Garth, Finance Manager
“What’s important for me is at the end of the day, after a long day, a rough day, whatever type of day you have, that you know that you are doing something great. That you are supporting research and you are supporting perhaps a cure for someone in the future.”

Buffy Sheff Ross, lead ER Social Worker
“Your managers always want to help you develop professionally. There’s so much support and encouragement, people here are so happy – it’s almost as if there’s something in the air or in the water. There’s always room to grow, they like people with initiative. And I love learning about my patients and their families, their cultures and traditions. This is my Dream Job. It’s where I belong.”

John Fanikos, Assistant Director of the Pharmacy
“I like working here a lot. The hospital is like a small town where you get to know everyone.
I look at some of the younger pharmacists and know what I’ve been able to do has made their lives easier. We’ve made tremendous advances with barcodes and scanning drugs,
so a lot of the dispensing tasks have really been improved. Computers are everywhere now and pharmacists are getting to places they never were allowed.”

Donna Oka, MRI Specialist
“We do a lot of different and involved exams that other MRI hospitals and outpatient centers do not provide for patients. We have a great Breast Department team. We see a lot of cancer patients. We do prostate imaging. We do advanced studies that a lot of places, they don’t have the technology to support and they don’t have the specialty of these radiologists who are reading these exams. That definitely makes us unique in that we provide the routine type of MRI imaging, but we also provide much more advanced imaging for these patients.”

Linda Arsalanian, Rehab Services
“I am so proud to be working at BWH. We have national recognition as leaders in our profession. We’re seen as the cutting edge, the standard of care. And I get to work with patients most therapists would never even see. Just today I received calls form Turkey and Tennessee, asking for follow-up information from our publications. There is genuine respect and regard for the people who work here. Every person plays a role in the big picture.“

Christopher Anderson, Technical Research Assistant 11, Channing Laboratory
“Brigham is definitely a teaching hospital. Everyone is willing to help, from the heads of departments to fellow technicians. We are a close-knit group – in fact, we just formed a baseball team. We hang out together, in and outside work. There’s real camaraderie here. What’s also great about my job is I get to do research that no one’s ever done before,
in a state-of-the-art lab, no less. How great is that!”

Ayelet Feinberg, Nurse Educator
“I’ve worked at different hospitals and I actually think that Brigham prepares its Nurses in the best way. For the new Nurses, we offer novice classes; they offer a long Preceptorship Program until they are comfortable. The ICUs have their own ICU Intern Program that has several steps to it so you’re really prepared when you are put out there. And even once you are an established Nurse we still offer you continuing classes to improve you, not just to stagnate. I think of all of the places I have worked at they really endeavor to teach the Nurses.”

Patricia Fuller-Murray. Unit Coordinator, Cardiac Surgery
“Unit Coordinators at Brigham get the respect they deserve – we’re recognized for the hard work we do and that feels really good. Our department gets along well, and people here really are interested in you. And the opportunities! Workforce Development encouraged me to get my Bachelor’s in Health Management. They sat down, mapped out a plan, and showed me I could do it. I’m getting that degree now. They opened up my future!”

David Rosenthal, Physician Assistant
“There’s an outstanding level of value that the hospital places on the role of PAs. I’ve worked at a number of hospitals in the state and I’ve never been in a place that values what PAs do more than Brigham.”

William Churchill, Executive Director, Pharmacy
“34 years ago, I was a pharmacy student here. Then they offered me a job and I never left.
My philosophy is to hire the smartest and most motivated people around. Smarter people make smarter decisions. Today my pharmacy department is recognized as one of the two or three best in the world. We’ve implemented an unbelievable system – bar code verification. It was an incredible accomplishment and it won the ASHP award. Patient safety is the single most important thing it lead to.”

Pivel Morton, Executive Assistant
“There’s the clinical side of the hospital, but there is also the Operations side and there are those staff members that are kind of in the background that don’t have that patient interaction, however, we do help run the hospital. In Human Resources what we do is provide our employees with all of the tools they need to succeed in their role for them then in turn to be able to provide great patient care.”

Jennifer O’Malley, Research Technician 1 in the Channing Lab
“We have a set number of hours we work in the lab, but our schedules can be flexible. I can work 9-5 or I can come in early and leave early. I was fresh out of college when I came to BWH, and when I found a new apartment, I got a discount on the apartment as well as on my utilities – all because I worked at BWH. This is so helpful for people who are just starting out in their careers.”

Angela Triggs, Pharmacist and Pharmacy Supervisor
“This is a fast-paced, exciting place to work. My husband also works here and I had my three kids here. When my husband was deployed to Germany for 14 months and I was left with the kids, Brigham was like a family. They did everything they could to help me through
it – making dinner for me at night, being so supportive – it was unbelievable.”
